As much as the ways of being successful in poker are the ways that one can fail in it. Poker may be a very popular card game but that does not mean that playing it is a walk in the park. On the contrary, it is card game so full of complexity and strategy which makes failing at it the one that is a walk in the park.
One of such ways that poker players can flunk in a poker match is by tilting. A player is said to be on tilt when that player's emotion influences that player's play in the game with adverse effects. Players on tilt play irrationally and impatiently which leads to further losses at the poker table. Being in such a state ultimately leads to defeat and that is why players must do everything to avoid tilting when in a card game.
So why would a player tilt? There are many reasons for tilting and players should be familiar with them so as to nip a tilt in the bud whenever they spot these causes that may grow into them and result in them going on tilt.
One of the top reasons why players tilt is the streak of cold hands. A series of cold hands coming in one after another is enough to make some players be in a tilting mode, especially those players that are not that good in poker as they are the ones that are the most impatient and the ones that do not know how to make the best out of every situation.
Good poker players are not daunted by such negative streaks as they know how to play effectively even with a flurry of poor hands coming their way which makes them less likely to be frustrated and go on a tilt than less-skilled players.
Another top reason for tilting is a losing streak. Having a losing streak is a much more frustration-inducing situation than having a cold hand streak as having a losing streak hurts one's bankroll badly whereas having a cold hand streak does not have any actual negative ramifications. This makes losing streaks even greater causes of tilting than cold streaks as they can really get the best out of many players.
Spotting these causes of tilting is important if one is to prevent one's self from going onto a tilt in the middle of a poker session. Tilting is one thing players should avoid at all cost as catching is as good as losing as one's bankroll which makes being aware of the causes of tilting an important duty for every poker player.
